As a student at Dillard University in New Orleans, he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. — Theta Sigma Chapter — in Fall 1967 as part of the “Funky 15.”
On that campus, he heard a young Louis Farrakhan speak. He embraced the teachings of the Nation of Islam soon after.
He would go on to serve in Los Angeles and rise to national prominence.
His lectures moved through campuses and communities.
His words were sampled by Ice Cube, X-Clan, and Public Enemy.
Black self-determination.
